Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of catgut embedment in point on young and middle- aged patients with simple obesity of spleen deficiency and excessive dampness type. Methods: A total of 62 young and middle- aged patients with simple obesity of spleen deficiency and excessive dampness type were selected and divided into the control group and the treatment group by computer grouping software, with 31 cases in each group. The control group was intervened with the therapy of diet regulation, exercise and behavior, and the treatment group was additionally treated with catgut embedment in point based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for three months continuously. The body weight, body mass index(BMI), body fat percentage(BFP), indexes of blood lipid and clinical effects were compared between the two groups, and the adverse reactions was recorded. Results: After treatment, the body weight, BMI and BFP in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and the above three indexes in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of triglyceride(TG) and total cholesterol(TC) in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05), and the above two levels in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). The total effective rate was 90.32% in the treatment group, higher than that of 67.74% in the control group(P< 0.05). During treatment,no adverse reactions, such as localized infection and hemorrhage were found in the treatment group. Conclusion: The therapy of catgut embedment in point can effectively reduce the body weight, BMI and BFP of young and middle- aged patients with simple obesity of spleen deficiency and excessive dampness type and regulate the levels of blood lipid, with good effect of losing weight and good safety.
