Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of modified Tongxie Yaofang combined with acupuncture and moxibustion on irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea(IBS-D) with liver qi over- restricting spleen syndrome. Methods： A total of 80 IBS- D patients with liver qi over- restricting spleen syndrome were selected and divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table method，with 40 cases in each group. The observation group was treated with modified Tongxie Yaofang combined with acupuncture and moxibustion，and the control group was given live combined bifidobacterium，lactobacillus and enterococcus powder orally. Both groups were treated for four weeks. The clinical effects were compared between the two groups. Before and after treatment，the changes of proportion of bacteria in stool and ratio of bifidobacteria to escherichia coli(B/E) in intestine were compared between the two groups. Results：After four weeks of treatment，the total clinical effective rate was 85.0% in the observation group and 67.5% in the control group，the difference being significant(P＜ 0.05). After four weeks of treatment，the proportion of bacteria in stool in the two groups was increased when compared with those before treatment， and the above index in the observation group was higher than that in the control group，differences being significant(P＜0.05). After four weeks of treatment，the value of B/E in the two groups was increased when compared with that before treatment，and the above value in the observation group was higher than that in the control group，differences being significant(P＜ 0.05). Conclusion：The therapy of modified Tongxie Yaofang combined with acupuncture and moxibustion has a good curative effect on IBS-D with liver qi over-restricting spleen syndrome，which can regulate the intestinal flora，relieve the clinical symptoms，and increase the intestinal available bacteria.
