Abstract： Objective： To observe the curative effect of Shensong Yangxin capsules combined with metoprolol for senile patients with chronic heart failure(CHF) complicated with arrhythmia and its effect on heart rate variability. Methods：A total of 84 cases of senile patients with CHF complicated with arrhythmia were selected and divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the numerical oddeven method，with 42 cases in each group. Both groups were given routine symptomatic treatment；the control group was additionally treated with metoprolol， and the treatment group was additionally treated with Shensong Yangxin capsules combined with metoprolol based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for three courses，with four weeks being a course. The clinical effects in the two groups were compared；the changes in heart function including left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVEDD)，heart rate variability including the standard deviation of the averages of normal- to- normal(SDANN) of R- R interval and the standard deviation of normal- to- normal (SDNN) of R- R interval，and the values of N- terminal pro- brain natriuretic peptide(NT- pro BNP) and Creactive protein(CRP) in serum before and after treatment in the two groups were compared. Results：The total effective rate of clinical effect was 95.24% in the treatment group and 80.95% in the control group， the difference being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment， the values of LVEF in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment，and LVEDD values were decreased，differences being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment，the LVEF value in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group， and the LVEDD value was lower， differences being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of SDNN and SDANN in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment，and the levels of SDNN and SDANN in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group，differences being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of NT-pro BNP and CRP in serum in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment，and the above two levels in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group，differences being significant (P＜0.05). Conclusion： The therapy of Shensong Yangxin capsules combined with metoprolol for senile patients with CHF complicated with arrhythmia has a definite curative effect， which can improve heart function，postpone heart failure，reduce heart rate variability and control the development of the disease.
