Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of modified Qianghuo Shengshi tang combined with joint loosening on scapulohumeral periarthritis. Methods： A total of 82 patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis were divided into the control group and the treatment group according to the random number table method， with 41 cases in each group. Both groups were treated with diclofenac sodium sustained release tablets. The control group was additionally treated with joint loosening，and the treatment group was additionally treated with modified Qianghuo Shengshi tang orally based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for four weeks continuously. After treatment，the scores of Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons(ASES) and clinical effects in the two groups were observed and compared. Results： The total effective rate was 95.12% in the treatment group and 75.61% in the control group， the difference being significant(P＜0.05). Before treatment，there were no significant difference being found in the comparison of scores of VAS and ASES between the two groups(P＞0.05). After treatment，the scores of VAS in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the scores of ASES were increased(P＜0.05)； the improvement in the scores of VAS and ASES in the treatment group was more significant than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Before treatment， there was no significant difference being found in the comparisons of the ranges of motion of anteflexion， posterior extension， abduction， addiction and external extension between the two groups(P＞0.05). After treatment， the ranges of motion of anteflexion， posterior extension， abduction， addiction and external extension in the two groups were improved when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the above five ranges of motion of shoulder joint in the treatment group were wider than those in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion：The therapy of modified Qianghuo Shengshi tang combined with joint lossening can reduce the pain and improve the range of motion of shoulder joint，with a definite clinical effect.
