Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of collateral bloodletting at Taiyang point(EX-HN5) combined with acupuncture for headache with excess syndrome. Methods:A total of 40 cases of patients with headache with excess syndrome who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into the acupuncture group and the collateral bloodletting group, with 20 cases in each group. The acupuncture group was treated with routine acupuncture, and the collateral bloodletting group was treated with routine acupuncture and collateral bloodletting at Taiyang point at the same time. Before and after treatment, the changes in Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) scores and clinical effects of Chinese medicine were observed and compared. Results: One case withdrew from the acupuncture group, one case with incomplete data records in the collateral bloodletting group, and therefore 19 cases were included in the two groups. After treatment, the VAS scores in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment, differences being significant(P<0.01);the VAS score in the collateral bloodletting group was decreased when compared with that in the acupuncture group, the difference being significant(P< 0.05). The total effective rate of clinical effect was 100% in both groups;the cure rate was 36.8% in the collateral bloodletting group and 15.8% in the acupuncture group, and there was significant difference being found in the cure rates between the two groups(P<0.01). Conclusion:Compared with acupuncture alone, collateral bloodletting at Taiyang point combined with acupuncture can alleviate headache with excess syndrome in a more effective way and improve the clinical cure rates.
