Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of modified Shutu Tang for schizophrenia of liver depression and phlegm accumulation type. Methods: A total of 62 cases of patients with schizophrenia were divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the random number table method,with 31 cases in each group. The control group was given the oral administration of Aripiprazole Tablets,and the treatment group was additionally treated with modified Shutu Tang based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for three months. The scores of Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS) and Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale(BPRS) before and after treatment as well as the clinical effects in the two groups were compared. Results: The total effective rate was 96.77% in the treatment group and 74.19% in the control group,the difference being significant between the two groups (P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the scores of positive symptoms,negative symptoms and general psychopathology in PANSS as well as the total scores between the two groups(P>0.05). After treatment,the above scores and the total scores in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05), and the scores and the total scores in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). Before treatment,there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the scores of anxiety and depression, lack of vitality, thought disorder, excitement and hostility suspicion between the two groups(P>0.05);after treatment,the above scores in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and the scores in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of modified Shutu Tang combined with Aripiprazole for schizophrenia of liver depression and phlegm accumulation type has a significant curative effect, and can significantly improve the symptoms, signs and mental state of patients.
