Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of Huai'er Granules combined with transarterial chemoembolization(TACE) for unresectable liver cancer. Methods： A total of 100 cases of patients with unresectable liver cancer were divided into the control group and the study group according to the convenience sampling method，with 50 cases in each group. Both groups received TACE，and the study group was additionally given the oral administration with Huai'er Granules. The clinical effects， the incidence of adverse reactions， median tumor progression time， blood indexes[alpha fetoprotein(AFP)， alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and total bilirubin(TBil)]，and the survival rates of half a year and one year of follow- up were compared between the two groups. Results：The total effective rate was 52.00% in the study group，compared with 48.00% in the control group，there being no significant difference(P＞0.05). After one month and three months of treatment，the levels of AFP and TBil in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the levels of ALT were increased(P＜0.05)； the AFP level in the study group was lower than that in the control group at the same period(P＜0.05)，there were no significant differences being found in the comparison of levels of ALT and TBil between the two groups(P＞0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 50.00% in the study group and 44.00% in the control group，compared between the two groups，there being no significance in the difference(P＞0.05). The median tumor progression time(175.65 ± 10.37)days in the study group was longer than that of (129.52±20.43) days in the control group(P＜0.05). The survival rates of half a year and one year of followup were 70.00% and 64.00% in the study group，compared with 50.00% and 44.00% in the control group， there being no significant difference(P＞0.05). Conclusion：Huai'er Granules combined with TACE treat for unresectable liver cancer is safe and effective，which can improve the liver function of patients，prolong the time of tumor progression and enhance the survival rates.
