Abstract：To introduce the clinical experience of Prof. GUO Weiting in treating lumbar disc herniation. Prof. GUO believes that there are three causes of lumbar disc herniation，including liver-kidney depletion， static blood obstruction，and external contraction of pathogens of wind- cold dampness and damp- heat. The disease belongs to syndrome of deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality. In clinical practice，the disease is treated from blood stasis， cold- damp， damp- heat， and liver- kidney depletion based on syndrome differentiation. Starting from the characteristics of "stasis" and "stagnation"，it is emphasized that the treatment of each syndrome type should be combined with moving qi，invigorating blood and dissolving stasis based on syndrome differentiation. Lumbar disc herniation can be treated by specific prescriptions like Huoxue Tongluo Shuyao Tang，Wenjing Sanhan Shuyao Tang，Qingre Tongluo Songyao Tang and Bushen Jianyao Tang， and be combined with external treatment. At the same time， special attention should be paid to adjusting emotions and medicated food therapy.
