Abstract：Objective：To observe the curative effect of Baitouweng Decoction for ulcerative colitis and its effect on Boston Bowel Preparation Scale(BBPS) scores and levels of inflammatory factors in serum. Methods：A total of 110 cases of patients with ulcerative colitis were divided into the control group and the study group according to the random number table method，with 55 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Mesalazine Sustained Release Granules， and the study group was treated with Baitouweng Decoction. The clinical effects in the two groups were compared. Before and after treatment， traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome scores， BBPS scores and levels of inflammatory factors in serum were compared between the two groups. Results： Before treatment， there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of TCM syndrome scores between the two groups(P＞0.05)； after treatment，TCM syndrome scores in the two groups were decreased(P＜0.05)，and the score in the study group was lower than that in the control group(P＜0.05). The total effective rate was 90.91% in the study group， higher than that of 74.55% in the control group(P＜0.05). Before treatment， there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of BBPS scores between the two groups(P＞0.05)； after treatment，BBPS scores in the two groups were increased(P＜0.05)，and the score in the study group was higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Before treatment，there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of levels of interleukin-6(IL-6)，interleukin-8(IL-8) and tumor necrosis factor- α(TNF-α) between the two groups(P＞0.05)；after treatment，the levels of IL-6，IL-8 and TNF-α in the two groups were decreased(P＜0.05)， and the levels in the study group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion：Baitouweng Decoction for patients with ulcerative colitis can improve clinical symptoms，intestinal cleanliness and clinical effects，and reduce inflammatory responses.
