Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of Compound Danshen Dripping Pills combined with western medicine for non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (DR). Methods：A total of 84 cases of patients with non- proliferative DR were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method，with 42 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Metformin Hydrochloride Tablets and Calcium Dobesilate Dispersible Tablets， and the observation group was additionally treated with Compound Danshen Dripping Pills based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for 4 months. Macular retinal thickness，gray value of visual field，levels of vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) in serum，as well as traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores before and after treatment were compared between the two groups；the clinical effects in the two groups were recorded. Results：After 4 months of treatment，the total effective rate of clinical effect was 90.00% in the observation group， higher than that of 72.22% in the control group， the difference being significant (P＜0.05). Macular retinal thickness，gray value of visual field and the levels of serum VEGF in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)， and macular retinal thickness，gray value of visual field and the level of serum VEGF in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). The scores of blurred vision， dim complexion， dry eyes， numbness of limbs and scaly dry skin in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). Conclusion：Compound Danshen Dripping Pills combined with western medicine for nonproliferative DR can improve the retinal condition of patients， delay vascular proliferation， relieve clinical symptoms and enhance clinical effect.
