Abstract：The paper introduces the application of formulas in the treatment of liver cancer. The basic pathogenesis of liver cancer is that patients contract the damp- heat and toxic pathogens as well as the binding constraint of liver qi，and this makes the liver fail to govern the free flow of qi and makes the spleen fail to transport nutrients，which results in the internal generation of turbid phlegm，and a long course of illness causes stasis. Liver constraint，turbid phlegm，damp-heat，static blood influence each other，and they settle in the rib-side，which eventually leads to liver cancer. In terms of syndrome types，the disease can contain five types， namely， liver constraint and spleen deficiency， liver heat and blood stasis， gallbladder heat and spleen cold， yang deficiency and water diffusion， and pathogenic heat invading the blood， and the five syndromes may coexist. The commonly used formulas for clinical treatment include Xiaochaihu Decoction， Sanhuang Xiexin Decoction， Huangqin Decoction， Chaihu Guizhi Ganjiang Decoction，Zhenwu Decoction and Banxia Houpo Decoction，which should be selected flexibly and treated according to the syndromes.
