Clinical Study on Long-Snake Moxibustion at Point Areas in Lumbosacral Spine Com⁃ bined with Routine Therapy for Ulcerative Colitis of Damp- Heat Accumulation Type at Mild or Moderate Active Period
Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of long- snake moxibustion at point areas in lumbosacral spine for ulcerative colitis (UC) of damp- heat accumulation type at mild or moderate active period. Methods:A total of 70 cases of UC patients included in the study were divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table method. Both groups were treated with routine modern medicine, and the observation group was additionally treated with long-snake moxibustion at point areas in lumbosacral spine. Both groups were treated for 2 consecutive courses of treatment. Before and after treatment, the symptom scores were evaluated, and interleukin- 23 (IL- 23) and interleukin-17 (IL-17) in serum were detected. The recurrence rates within 1 month and 3 months after 2 courses of treatment were counted, the clinical effects in the two groups were compared, and the safety evaluation was carried out. Results: After 2 courses of treatment, the scores of main symptoms and the total scores of symptoms in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05);the scores of diarrhea and abdominal distension and the total score of symptoms in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The levels of IL-23 and IL-17 in serum in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the levels of IL-23 and IL-17 in serum in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate of clinical effect, the recurrence rate and incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group were similar to those in the control group, there being no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion:Compared with simply routine treatment, the application of long- snake moxibustion at point areas in lumbosacral spine combined with routine modern medicine for UC of damp-heat accumulation type at mild or moderate active period improves the clinical effects, and can improve clinical symptoms and reduce intestinal inflammation in a more effective way.
