Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex Decoction combined with irrigation by vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) for venous leg ulcers (VLU). Methods:A total of 80 cases of VLU patients were divided into the trial group and the control group according to the random number table method, with 40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with 0.9% sodium chloride solution combined with VSD irrigation,and the trial group was treated with Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex Decoction combined with VSD irrigation. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, wound area and levels of hypersensitive C- reactive protein (hs- CRP) and white blood cell counts (WBC) before and after treatment were compared between the two groups; drainage tube blockage, wound healing rate,negative conversion rate of wound bacterial culture,clinical effects,length of hospital stay, total hospitalization expenses and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate was 95.00% in the trial group,higher than that of 72.50% in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,TCM syndrome scores,wound area and levels of hs-CRP and WBC in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the above indexes in the trial group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The wound healing rate and the negative conversion rate of wound bacterial culture in the trial group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), and the length of hospital stay and the total hospitalization expenses in the trial group were shorter and lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the drainage tube blockage rates between the two groups (P>0.05),and no serious adverse reaction occurred in the two groups. Conclusion: Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex Decoction combined with VSD irrigation for VLU has a definite curative effect,and can improve the wound healing rate,reduce inflammatory reactions and shorten the length of hospital stay,with high safety.
