Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of characteristic hot medicinal compress therapy in Zhuang medicine for lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods: A total of 130 cases of LDH patients were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method, with 65 cases in each group. The control group was treated with routine treatment and nursing, and the observation group was additionally treated with characteristic hot medicinal compress therapy in Zhuang medicine based on the treatment of the control group. The scores of low back pain in Japan Orthopedics Association (JOA), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and the Short Form Health Survey (SF- 36) before and after treatment, as well as the clinical effects, were compared between the two groups. Results: The total effective rate was 96.92% in the observation group,higher than that of 84.62% in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of low back pain in JOA, the scores of each dimension including physical functioning, physical role functioning, bodily pain, general health perceptions, vitality, social role functioning,emotional role functioning,and mental health of SF-36 in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and VAS scores were decreased (P<0.05); the scores of low back pain in JOA, the scores of each dimension of SF- 36 in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), and the VAS scores was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Characteristic hot medicinal compress therapy in Zhuang medicine has a definite curative effect in treating LDH, and can effectively relieve symptoms, signs, and pain, and enhance quality of life.
