Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of Maren Pills combined with Compound Eosinophil- Lactobacillus Tablets for functional constipation in the senile. Methods：A total of 80 cases of senile patients with functional constipation were divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the random number table method，with 40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Compound Eosinophil- Lactobacillus Tablets， and the treatment group was treated with Maren Pills combined with Compound Eosinophil- Lactobacillus Tablets. The clinical symptoms and signs， and the scores of Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS)，Self-rating Depressing Scale (SDS)，Gastrointestinal Quality of Life index (GIQLI)，and Wexner Score (Wexner) before and after treatment，as well as the clinical effects and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results： The total effective rate was 95.00% in the treatment group， higher than that of 77.50% in the control group， the difference being significant between the two groups (P＜0.05). After treatment，the scores of defecation frequency，defecation speed，difficulty of defecation，stool characteristics，and abdominal distension in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and each score of symptoms and signs in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment， the scores of SAS and SDS in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the scores of SAS and SDS in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment，the GIQLI scores in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment， and Wexner scores were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)；the improvement of the two scores in the treatment group was better than that in the control group (P＜0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 7.50% in the treatment group and 5.00% in the control group，there being no significance in the difference (P＞0.05). Conclusion：Maren Pills combined with Compound Eosinophil- Lactobacillus Tablets has a significant effect for functional constipation in the senile， which can effectively relieve constipation symptoms， and improve anxiety， depression，and quality of life，without significantly increasing adverse reactions.
