Abstract:Objective:To observe the effect of acupuncture at Sichong points [namely Taichong point (LV 3), Zhongchong point (PC 9), Guanchong point (SJ 1), and Shaochong point (HT 9)] combined with Shengyu Decoction on language function and neurological function in patients with post- stroke aphasia. Methods: A total of 90 cases of patients with post- stroke aphasia were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method, with 45 cases in each group. Both groups were given routine treatment and language training. The control group was additionally treated with the oral administration with Shengyu Decoction on the basis of routine treatment, and the observation group was treated with acupuncture at Sichong points based on the treatment of the control group. The traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, language function, neurological function, and clinical effects were compared between the two groups. The levels of calcitonin generelated peptide (CGRP) and endothelin 1 (ET- 1) in the two groups were detected. Results: The total effective rate was 86.67% in the observation group, higher than that of 68.89% in the control group, the difference being significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of deviated tongue and mouth, sluggish speech or aphasia, numbness of one side of the body, and mental confusion in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and each score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of spontaneous speech, repetition, comprehension, and naming in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and each score in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,National Institute of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and NIHSS score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,CGRP levels in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and CGRP level in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,ET-1 levels in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and ET-1 level in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion:Acupuncture at Sichong points combined with Shengyu Decoction for patients with post-stroke aphasia can improve their language function, neurological function, and clinical symptoms, and regulate the levels of CGRP and ET-1.
