Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of self-made Qingwei Decoction combined with Metronidazole Tablets for periodontitis and their improvement effect on inflammatory factors and periodontal health. Methods：A total of 104 cases of patients with periodontitis were selected and divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the random number table method， with 52 cases in each group. Both groups were given routine treatment；the control group was treated with Metronidazole Tablets， and the treatment group was additionally treated with self- made Qingwei Decoction based on the treatment of the control group. Clinical effects，periodontal health，the levels of inflammatory factors in gingival crevicular fluid [interleukin- 6 (IL-6)，interleukin- 1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α)]， and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results：The total effective rate was 96.15% in the treatment group and 82.69% in the control group，the difference being significant (P＜0.05). After treatment，the scores of gingival sulcus bleeding indexes and the gingival and plaque indexes in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the above three scores in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of IL-6，IL-1β，and TNF-α in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the above three levels in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 9.62% in the treatment group and 7.69% in the control group， there being no significance in the difference (P＞0.05). Conclusion： Qingwei Decoction combined with Metronidazole Tablets has a significant curative effect in the treatment of periodontitis，which can effectively relieve local inflammatory responses and help to improve their periodontal health，with good medication safety.
