Abstract: This paper introduces Prof. CHEN Xiabo's clinical experience in treating perimenopausal syndrome by supplementing yin and harmonizing yang and simultaneously regulating liver and kidney. Prof. CHEN believes that the basic pathogenesis of perimenopausal syndrome is the deficiency of original qi;the triggered pathogenesis of it is the constraint and stagnation of liver qi,and the sequential pathogenesis is the disharmony of five zang organs and the disharmony of yin and yang. Clinically, there are six types of syndromes: binding constraint of liver qi, liver constraint transforming into fire, heart- liver blood deficiency,liver-kidney yin deficiency, yin deficiency with yang hyperactivity and deficiency of both yin and yang. For its treatment, Prof. CHEN advocates to supplement yin and harmonize yang and simultaneously regulate the liver and kidney, taking into account other zang organs, with psychological treatment. And Prof. CHEN uses "pot fire" to compare the physiological and pathological phenomena of perimenopausal period, and creates basic herbs like Erzhi Erxian Formula and medicates them throughout the treatment, aiming to “add water to the pot”(supplementing and boosting liver and kidney, enriching and nourishing yin-blood) and “light the fire”(warming kidney and fortifying the spleen).
