Abstract:Objective:To observe the effect of acupuncture combined with Modified Sijunzi Decoction on immune function and inflammatory factors of respiratory epithelium in patients with chronic pharyngitis. Methods: A total of 156 cases of patients with chronic pharyngitis were selected and divided into the decoction group, the acupuncture group, and the combination group according to the random number table method, with 52 cases in each group. The decoction group was treated with Modified Sijunzi Decoction, the acupuncture group was treated with acupuncture, and the combination group was treated with acupuncture combined with Modified Sijunzi Decoction. The three groups were treated for 3 months. Traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores were compared before and after treatment between the two groups. The time of clinical symptom improvement was recorded. The levels of secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) , high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP),interleukin 6 (IL-6),and tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α) were detected. Results: After treatment, the scores of dry and sore throat, nausea and belching, yellow and dry tongue coating, and pharyngeal mucosal condition in the three groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the above scores in the combination group were lower than those in the decoction group and the acupuncture group (P<0.05). After treatment, the disappearance time of hoarse voice, dry throat and itching, sore throat and mucous membrane congestion in the combination group was earlier than that in the decoction group and the acupuncture group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of sIgA in the three groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the level in the combination group was higher than those in the decoction group and the acupuncture group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of hs-CRP, IL- 6,and TNF- α in the three groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P< 0.05),and the three levels in the combination group were lower than those in the decoction group and the acupuncture group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture combined with Modified Sijunzi Decoction for chronic pharyngitis can improve the clinical symptoms, enhance the immune function of respiratory epithelium, and reduce inflammatory responses of the body.
