Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of bath with Gubiao Zhihan Prescription combined with Vitamin D Drops on vitamin D- deficient rickets (VDDR) of lung- spleen qi deficiency type. Methods:A total of 60 VDDR children of lung-spleen qi deficiency type were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. During the study,4 cases in the control group and 5 cases in the observation group were dropped off. Finally,26 and 25 cases were included into the control group and the observation group. The control group was given Vitamin D Drops for treatment, and the observation group was additionally treated with bath with Gubiao Zhihan Prescription based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for 1 month. The clinical effects, levels of blood calcium, serum phosphate,25- hydroxyl vitamin D [25 (OH) VD] and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores were compared between the two groups. The sweating in both groups were observed before and after treatment. Results: After treatment, the total clinical effective rate was 92.00% in the observation group, higher than that of 65.38% in the control group (P<0.05). The TCM syndrome scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the TCM syndrome score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The levels of blood calcium and 25 (OH) VD in both groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the levels of ALP in both groups were decreased (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of levels of serum phosphate in both groups with those before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the ALP level in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05),the 25 (OH) VD level was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparisons of levels of blood calcium and serum phosphate between the two groups (P>0.05). The improvement of sweating in the observation group was better than that in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The clinical effect of therapy of bath with Gubiao Zhihan Prescription combined with Vitamin D Drops on VDDR of lung- spleen qi deficiency type was better than that of single Vitamin D Drops, which can effectively mitigate the clinical symptoms of patients, reduce the ALP level and increase the 25 (OH) VD level.
