Clinical Study on Compound Houttuynia Mixture Combined with Ribavirin Injection for Children with Acute Viral Upper Respiratory Tract Infection of Wind-Heat Type
Abstract:Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Compound Houttuynia Mixture combined with Ribavirin Injection based on routine symptomatic treatment measures for children with acute viral upper respiratory tract infection of wind- heat type. Methods: A total of 120 cases of children with acute viral upper respiratory tract infection of wind- heat type were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group, with 60 cases in each group. Both groups were given the measure of bringing down a fever and other routine symptomatic treatment measures and treated with Ribavirin Injection as an antiviral treatment. The observation group was additionally treated with the oral administration of Compound Houttuynia Mixture. Both groups were treated continuously for 7 days,If the clinical symptoms disappear during treatment, the administered drugs can be discontinued. Serum inflammatory factors [tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α), interleukin 6 (IL- 6), and C- reactive protein (CRP)] were detected before and after treatment. The time of abatement of fever, the time of cough remission, the time of vitality improvement, and the incidence of adverse reactions were observed. Clinical effects were compared between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the total clinical effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). The time of abatement of fever, the time of cough remission, and the time of vitality improvement in the observation group were earlier than those in the control group (P<0.05). The levels of CRP, TNF- α, and IL- 6 in the two groups were lower than those before treatment (P< 0.05), and the levels of CRP, TNF- α, and IL- 6 in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the incidence of adverse reactions (P>0.05). Conclusion: Compound Houttuynia Mixture combined with Ribavirin Injection based on routine symptomatic treatment measures for children with acute viral upper respiratory tract infection of wind-heat type can effectively relieve inflammatory reactions, accelerate the remission of clinical symptoms, and shorten the course of the disease, with good medication safety.
