Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of internal heat needling method for lumbar disc herniation of cold- damp obstruction type. Methods: A total of 352 cases of patients with lumbar disc herniation of cold- damp obstruction type were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method, with 176 cases in each group. The control group was treated with lumbar traction combined with motion exercise, and the observation group was additionally treated with internal heat needling method based on the treatment of the control group. Before and after treatment, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores,Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores,Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores, and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores were compared between the two groups. The levels of inflammatory factors were detected. The clinical effects and incidence of adverse reactions were evaluated between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate was 98.86% in the observation group, higher than that of 93.75% in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of lower back pain, increased pain when encountering cold, decreased pain when experiencing heat, and pale complexion in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,VAS and ODI scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment, and JOA scores were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05);the VAS and ODI scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the JOA score was higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment , the levels of C- reactive protein (CRP), interleukin 6 (IL- 6), and tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α) were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the levels of CRP, IL- 6 and TNF- α in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion:Internal heat needle method has a significant effect on patients with lumbar disc herniation of cold-damp obstruction type, which can improve clinical symptoms and lumbar function, relieve patients' pain, increase lumbar mobility, and inhibit the expression of inflammatory factors.
