Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of fumigation with Shengjin Runmu Prescription combined with meibomian gland massage and Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops for xerophthalmia. Methods： A total of 100 cases of patients with xerophthalmia were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method， with 50 cases in each group. Both groups were given routine treatment including Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops and meibomian gland massage；the control group was additionally treated with fumigation with 0.9% sodium chloride solution， and the observation group was additionally treated with fumigation with Shengjin Runmu Prescription. Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. Traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores， scores of meibomian gland， and clinical indicators of dry eye were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results： After treatment， the scores of dryness and dull pain in the eyes， hyperemia of the conjunctiva，visual fatigue from intense use，and foreign body sensation in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)， and the scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment，the scores of meibomian gland in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)， and the score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment，the scores of corneal fluorescence staining (FL) in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment， and the values of Schirmer's test (SIT) and tear film break- up time (BUT) were increased (P＜0.05)； FL score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group， and SIT value and BUT in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P＜0.05). Conclusion： For patients with xerophthalmia， fumigation with Shengjin Runmu Prescription combined with meibomian gland massage and Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops can improve their clinical symptoms， the function of the meibomian gland，and corneal stability，and have a definite curative effect.
