Abstract:Externally-contracted febrile diseases are caused by exogenous pathogenic factors invading the human body with fever as the main symptom, which impose great effects on the health of patients. According to the toxic pathogen theory and the characteristics of externally- contracted febrile diseases, Professor YANG Cangliang believes that toxic pathogen is the main pathogenic factor, and advocates treatment by stages. In the early stage , Professor YANG believes that externally- contracted febrile diseases are caused by wind toxin, cold toxin, dampness toxin and heat toxin, and Qufeng Gongdu Decoction,Sanhan Gongdu Decoction,Lishi Gongdu Decoction and Qingre Gongdu Decoction are used to release the exterior and purge the toxin;in the middle stage, phlegm, stasis and toxin are endogenous, blocking the qi and blood and meridians and collaterals and harming the zang-fu organs and collaterals, and Modified Huatan Gongdu Decoction and Zhuyu Gongdu Decoction are given to resolve phlegm and expel stasis and purge the toxin;in the later stage, the toxic pathogen takes advantage of the deficiency, and the deficiency binds with the toxin, causing qi deficiency and lingering toxin, blood deficiency and lingering toxin, yin deficiency and lingering toxin, yang deficiency and lingering toxin, etc. Buqi Gongdu Decoction, Modified Buxue Gongdu Decoction,Ziyin Gongdu Decoction, and Wenyang Gongdu Decoction are given to reinforce the healthy qi and purge the toxin. Professor YANG believes that externally- contracted febrile diseases are dangerous and intractable, and that in clinical practice, it is better not to rigidly adhere to certain method or prescription. He advocates the integrated Chinese and western medicine in the early stage to treat the branch, the combination of internal and external treatment in the middle stage to treat the root, the combination of acupuncture and medicine in the later stage to eradicate the root, and exercise in the recovery stage to strengthen the body,so as to achieve the purpose of using compound treatment to treat the disease.
