Abstract:This paper introduces the clinical experience of Professor LI Donghai applying the theory of wind-damp in viscera and bowels to the treatment of scleroderma. Professor LI Donghai holds that the key pathogenesis of scleroderma is the latent cold- damp in the interior, the deficiency and impairment of viscera and bowels, and phlegm blended with stasis; the treatment should vent and dissipate latent pathogens, resolve deficiency and impairment by supplementing and boosting, and eliminate obstruction. In clinical practice, there are various methods to vent and dissipate latent pathogens, such as ascending and dispersing, inducing sweating, dissipating cold, venting the exterior, clearing the upper, and expelling wind;methods for resolving deficiency and impairment by supplementing and boosting includes supplementing the lung, tonifying the spleen, supplementing the kidney, and consolidating essence; methods of moving qi, activating blood, dispelling stasis, and unblocking collaterals can be used to eliminate obstruction. To vent and dissipate latent pathogens,Puerariae Lobatae Radix is usually used for ascending and dispersing,Ephedrae Herba for promoting sweating,Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata for dissipating cold,Moslae Herba for venting the exterior,Cimicifugae Rhizoma for clearing the upper, and Schizonepetae Herba for expelling wind, and it is essential to constantly venting pathogens. As for resolving deficiency and impairment by supplement and boosting, attention should be paid to supplementing the lung and tonifying the spleen in the early stage and supplementing the kidney and consolidating essence in the later stage. Chinese medicinals of moving qi,activating blood, dispelling stasis, and unblocking collaterals can be added as appropriate to achieve a synergistic effect.
