Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of Lianhua Qingwen Capsules combined with western medicine for community acquired pneumonia (CAP) with phlegm- heat obstructing the lung syndrome. Methods：A total of 98 cases of CAP patients with phlegm-heat obstructing the lung syndrome were selected and divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the random number table method，with 49 cases in each group；1 case was excluded from the treatment group，and 3 cases were excluded from the control group；finally 48 cases in the treatment group and 46 cases in the control group were included. The control group was treated with Azithromycin Tablets combined with Ceftriaxone Sodium for Injection， and the treatment group was additionally treated with Lianhua Qingwen Capsules based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for 7 days. Clinical effects， traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores， and levels of inflammatory indicators [highsensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)，interleukin-6 (IL-6)，and tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α)] and immune indicators [Immunoglobulin (Ig) A， IgG， and IgM] were compared between the two groups. Results：After treatment，the total effective rate was 95.83% in the treatment group，higher than that of 82.61% in the control group (P＜0.05). The scores of cough，profuse phlegm，dry sticky white phlegm or yellow phlegm，chest pain，fever，thirst，yellow urine，dry stool，and fullness of stomach cavity in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)， and the above nine TCM syndrome scores in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). The levels of hs-CRP，IL-6，and TNF-α in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the above three levels in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). The levels of IgA， IgG， and IgM in serum in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the above three levels in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group (P＜0.05). Conclusion： Lianhua Qingwen Capsules combined with western medicine has a significant curative effect in the treatment of CAP with phlegm-heat obstructing the lung syndrome，and can relieve clinical symptoms，inhibit inflammatory reactions，and enhance immune function.
