Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of Gusongbao Granules combined with western medicine on female osteoporosis (OP). Methods:A total of 100 cases of female OP patients were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to different treatment methods,with 50 cases in each group. The control group was treated with western medicine (Raloxifene Hydrochloride Tablets, Calcium Carbonate Vitamin D3 Tablets, Vitamin D Drops), and the observation group was additionally treated with Gusongbao Granules based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for 3 months. The clinical effects, the levels of serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), type I procollagen N- terminal propeptide (PINP), osteocalcin (OST), bone- specific alkaline phosphatase (BAP),bone morphogenetic protein- 2 (BMP-2) and MicroRNA- 133a (miR-133a),and the bone mineral density (BMD) of L2- 4, femoral greater trochanter and femoral neck were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate was 96.00% in the observation group, higher than that of 80.00% in the control group (P<0.05). The levels of serum ALP,PINP,and BMP-2 in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the levels of serum OST,BAP,and miR- 133a were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05);the levels of serum ALP, PINP and BMP- 2 in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05),and the levels of serum OST,BAP and miR- 133a were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The BMD of the L2-4,greater trochanter and neck of femur in both groups were higher than those before treatment (P<0.05),and the BMD of the greater trochanter and femur neck in the observation group was respectively higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the comparison of the BMD of L2- 4 between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of Gusongbao Granules combined with western medicine has a good clinical effect on female OP patients, which can effectively improve bone metabolism and enhance bone mineral density. Its mechanism of action may be related to the regulation of serum BMP-2 and miR-133a levels.
