Clinical Study on Acupuncture and Moxibustion Method Based on Three Steps Principle Combined with Routine Therapy for Bipolar Disorder Complicated with Insomnia in Remission Stage
Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture and moxibustion methods based on three steps principle combined with routine therapy on patients with bipolar disorder (BPD) complicated with insomnia in remission stage. Methods: The clinical data of 200 patients with BPD complicated with insomnia in remission stage of dual deficiency of the heart and spleen type were retrospectively analyzed and divided into the observation group and control group according to different treatment methods, with 100 cases in each group. The two groups were treated with health education, Lithium Carbonate Sustained- Release Tablets and Estazolam Tablets, and the observation group was additionally given the acupuncture and moxibustion methods based on three steps principle for treatment. The two groups were treated for two weeks. Before and after treatment, the scores of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Sleep Dysfunction Rating Scale (SDRS) and 36-item Short-Form (SF-36) were evaluated;the actual total sleep time, sleep efficiency and awakening time at night were counted;the clinical effects and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the total effective rate was 90.00% in the observation group and 70.00% in the control group, the difference being significant (P<0.05). The scores of PSQI and SDRS in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The actual total sleep time and sleep efficiency in both groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the sleep efficiency in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05). The actual total sleep time in the observation group was longer than that in the control group, the sleep efficiency was higher than that in the control group, and the awakening time at night was shortened when compared with that in the control group (P<0.05). The SF- 36 scores in both groups were increased compared to before treatment (P<0.05); the SF- 36 score in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P> 0.05). Conclusion: Based on routine therapy, the additional application of acupuncture and moxibustion methods based on three steps principle has a significant clinical effect on patients with BPD complicated with insomnia in remission stage of dual deficiency of the heart and spleen type, which can effectively improve the insomnia symptoms of patients and improve the sleep quality and quality of life.
