Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of ultrasonic atomization with Ziyin Yanggan Prescription combined with point injection for xerophthalmia in adolescent children. Methods: A total of 108 cases of adolescent children with xerophthalmia were selected as the study objects, and were divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table method, with 54 cases in each group. The control group was treated with point injection, and the observation group was additionally treated with ultrasonic atomization with Ziyin Yanggan Prescription based on the treatment of the control group. The clinical effects were compared between the two groups; traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, xerophthalmia indexes [Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) scores, non-invasive tear break-up time,non-invasive tear meniscus height, corneal fluorescein staining scores], and tear inflammatory factor indexes [interleukin-6 (IL-6),interleukin-17 (IL-17),tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF- α)] were compared before and after treatment between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the total effective rate was 94.44% in the observation group, higher than that of 85.19% in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of TCM syndromes including dry eyes, distending pain in eyes, blurred vision, dizziness and tinnitus in the two groups were decreased (P<0.05),and the scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,OSDI scores and corneal fluorescein staining scores in the two groups were decreased (P<0.05), non- invasive tear break- up time was shortened (P<0.05), and non- invasive tear meniscus height were increased (P< 0.05);OSDI score and corneal fluorescein staining score in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05),non-invasive tear break-up time was shorter than that in the control group (P< 0.05),and the non-invasive tear meniscus height was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of IL-6,IL-17 and TNF-α in tears in the two groups were decreased (P<0.05),and the levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Ultrasonic atomization with Ziyin Yanggan Prescription combined with point injection has a significant clinical effect in the treatment of xerophthalmia in adolescent children, which can alleviate TCM symptoms, promote the secretion of tears, prolong the breakup time of tear film, improve corneal staining and reduce the tear inflammation indexes.
