Clinical Study on Joss Stick Moxibustion Combined with Modified Xiepi San Decoction for Recurrent Oral Ulcer of Accumulated Heat in the Heart and Spleen Type
Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of Joss stick moxibustion combined with modified Xiepi San Decoction on recurrent oral ulcer of accumulated heat in the heart and spleen type. Methods:A total of 89 patients with recurrent oral ulcer of accumulated heat in the heart and spleen type were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method, with 44 and 45 cases in each group. The two groups were given basic treatment, the control group was additionally treated with modified Xiepi San Decoction and the observation group was additionally treated with Joss stick moxibustion based on the treatment of the control group. The two groups were treated for 7 days. The clinical effects, healing time of ulcer and recurrence rates of ulcer were compared between the two groups;the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, ulcer area, scores of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and levels of serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL- 2R) were compared before and after treatment between the two groups; the levels of Neisseria, Streptococcus, Veillonella and epidermal growth factor (EGF) in saliva were compared before and after treatment between the two groups. Results: The total effective rate was 97.78% in the observation group, higher than that of 81.82% in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the ulcer area,TCM syndrome scores,VAS scores,EGF levels in saliva and levels of serum TNF-α and sIL-2R in the two groups were lower than those before treatment (P<0.05), and the levels of Neisseria, Streptococcus and Veillonella in saliva were higher than those before treatment (P<0.05);the ulcer area, TCM syndrome scores,VAS scores,EGF levels in saliva and levels of serum TNF- α and sIL- 2R in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05), and the levels of Neisseria, Streptococcus and Veillonella in saliva were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The healing time of ulcer in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group (P<0.05), and the recurrence rates after follow-up for 6 and 12 months were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of Joss stick moxibustion combined with modified Xiepi San Decoction has a definite curative effect on recurrent oral ulcer of accumulated heat in the heart and spleen type, which can inhibit the inflammatory responses of patients, regulate the balance of oral microbiology flora, promote the repair of oral mucosa and decrease the recurrence rate of ulcer.
