Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of Xuhan Weitong Granules combined with western medicine on senile patients with helicobacter pylori (Hp) positive gastric ulcer (GU) and its effect on inflammatory factors. Methods：A total of 126 cases of senile patients with Hp- positive GU were divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the random number table method ， with 63 cases in each group. The control group was treated with routine western medicine，and the treatment group was additionally treated with Xuhan Weitong Granules based on the treatment of the control group. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores，gastrointestinal hormone indexes and inflammatory factors before and after treatment were compared between the two groups；clinical effects，Hp clearance rates and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results： After treatment， the total effective rate and Hp clearance rate were 92.06% and 90.48% respectively in the treatment group， higher than those of 79.37% and 76.19% respectively in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment，TCM syndrome scores and the levels of gastrin (GAS)，interleukin-6 (IL-6)，interleukin- 8 (IL-8) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in serum in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)， and the levels of serum motilin (MTL) were increased (P＜0.05)； TCM syndrome scores and the levels of GAS， IL- 6， IL- 8 and TNF- α in serum in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05)，the level of serum MTL was higher than that in the control group (P＜0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 4.76% in the treatment group，lower than that of 15.87% in the control group (P＜0.05). Conclusion： Xuhan Weitong Granules combined with western medicine has a definite curative effect on Hp- positive GU in senile patients. It can improve the levels of gastrointestinal hormones， and reduce the secretion of inflammatory factors and Hp infection， with high safety.
