Abstract:Objective:To observe the curative effect of the Huangqin Decoction combined with exercise therapy on traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI). Methods: A total of 42 TSCI patients were selected and divided into the control group and the trial group according to random number table method , with 21 patients in each group. The control group was treated with exercise therapy, and the trial group was additionally treated with Huangqin Decoction based on exercise therapy. Both groups were treated for 3 weeks. The changes in the scores of neural function in American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA),Spinal Cord Independence Measure (SCIM- Ⅲ), Activity of Daily Living (ADL), Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores were compared before and after treatment between the two groups. Results:After treatment,the motor scores and sensory scores in ASIA in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the above two scores in the trial group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,the scores of self-care, respiration and sphincter management,mobility and the total scores of SCIM- Ⅲ in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the above four scores in the trial group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,the ADL and BBS scores in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment, comparison of ADL scores between two groups, differences being significant (P<0.05), and the TCM syndrome scores were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05); the ADL and BBS scores in the trial group were higher than those in the control group, two groups ADL scores comparison, the difference being significant (P<0.05),and the TCM syndrome scores in the trial group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Huangqin Decoction combined with exercise therapy can alleviate clinical symptoms of TSCI patients,improve motor,balance and daily life skills,and enhance quality of life.
