Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of acupuncture combined with Methylcobalamin Dispersible Tablets on peripheral facial paralysis. Methods: A total of 50 cases with peripheral facial paralysis were divided into the two groups by random number table method, with 25 cases in each group. The control group was given with Methylcobalamin Dispersible Tablets, and the treatment group given with the therapy of acupuncture combined with Methylcobalamin Dispersible Tablets. The clinical curative effects and adverse reactions were compared in two groups, and the changes in facial deformity indexes, including Facial Disability Index Physical (FDIP) and Facial Disability Index Social (FDIS), House-Brackmann (HB), facial electromyography, including changes in amplitude of compound muscle action potential (CMAP) and latency of RI, and suppression ratio of the amplitude of affected-side orbicularis oculi to orbicularis oris were also compared before and after treatment. Results: The total effective rate was 96.00% in treatment group, higher than that of 72.00% in control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the FDIP scores in both groups were increased, and the FDIP score in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05); the FDIS and HB scores in both groups were decreased, and the FDIS and HB scores in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the amplitude of CMAP was respectively increased in both groups, and the amplitude in treatment group was greater than that in the control group (P<0.05); the latency of RI was respectively decreased in both groups, and the latency in the treatment group was shorter than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the suppression ratio of the amplitude of affected-side orbicularis oculi to orbicularis oris was respectively decreased in the two groups, and the ratio in treatment group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The rate of side reactions between the two groups was not significantly different(P>0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of acupuncture combined with Methylcobalamin Dispersible Tablets has a great clinical effect on the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis, which can effectively improve the facial disability indexes and the difference of bioelectric signal on the affected side, promote the recovery of facial nerve function, and is safe and reliable.
