Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of Shugan Runchang Prescription on constipation of liver constraint and qi stagnation type. Methods：A total of 64 patients with constipation of liver constraint and qi stagnation type were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method，with 32 cases in each group. The control group was given oral administration of Bisacodyl Enteric-Coated Tablets for treatment， and the observation group was treated with oral administration of Shugan Runchang Prescription. After four weeks of treatment，the complete spontaneous bowel movement (CSBM) frequency， scores of constipation symptoms， traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores，scores of Patient Assessment of Constipation-Quality of Life (PAC-QOL) and the levels of serum substance P (SP)， vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP)， motilin (MTL)， gastrin (GAS) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) were compared between the two groups. The clinical effects and incidence of adverse reactions in the two groups were evaluated. Results： The total effective rate was 93.75% in the observation group，higher than that of 75.00% in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment，the scores of constipation symptoms，TCM syndrome scores，PAC-QOL scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)， and the above three scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05)； the CSBM frequency in the two groups was increased when compared with that before treatment，and the CSBM frequency in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment， the levels of 5-HT， SP， MTL and GAS in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the VIP levels were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)； the levels of 5-HT， SP， MTL and GAS in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P＜0.05)，and the VIP level was lower than that in the control group (P＜0.05). Conclusion： Shugan Runchang Prescription can effectively improve the constipation symptoms and TCM syndromes of patients with constipation of liver constraint and qi stagnation type， enhance their quality of life， and regulate the levels of gastrointestinal hormones of the body.
