Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of acupotomy based on sinew- nodule theory combined with Shentong Zhuyu Decoction on cervical spondylosis. Methods: A total of 90 patients with cervical spondylosis were randomly divided into three groups, with 30 cases in each group. Group A was treated with Shentong Zhuyu Decoction, group B was treated with acupotomy, and group C was treated with acupotomy combined with Shentong Zhuyu Decoction. All the groups were treated for four weeks. The clinical effects were evaluated in the three groups. The scores of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes,36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36),Visual Analogue Scale (VAS),and Neck Disability Index (NDI) were compared before and after treatment. Results: The total effective rates of the three groups were compared, and the difference was significant (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 96.67% in group C,which was higher than of 76.67% in group B and 66.67% in group A (P<0.05). After treatment, the TCM syndrome scores in the three groups were lower than those before treatment (P<0.05),and the TCM syndrome score in group C was lower than those in group B and group A (P<0.05). After treatment, the SF-36 scores in the three groups were higher than those before treatment, and the VAS and NDI scores were lower than those before treatment (P<0.05); the SF-36 score in group C was higher than those in group B and group A,and the VAS and NDI scores were lower than those in group B and group A (P<0.05). Conclusion: Based on sinew- nodule theory, the combination of acupotomy and Shentong Zhuyu Decoction has a significant effect on treating cervical spondylosis, which can effectively improve clinical symptoms, reduce pain and cervical dysfunction, and improve quality of life.
