Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Huangqi Shengmai Decoction combined with conventional western medicine for senile pneumonia of qi-yin deficiency type. Methods:A total of 86 cases of senile patients with pneumonia of qi-yin deficiency type were divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table method , with 43 cases in each group ; finally , 42 cases in the observation group (one case was excluded) and 41 cases in the control group (two cases were excluded) completed the trial. The control group was treated with conventional western medicine for the abatement of fever, anti-infection, and resolving phlegm and relieving cough, and the observation group was additionally treated with Huangqi Shengmai Decoction based on the treatment of the control group. Clinical effects, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, and the levels of serum inflammatory factors [C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α), and interleukin-8 (IL-8)],T lymphocyte subsets (CD4+,CD8+,CD4+/CD8+),and humoral immune indicators [immunoglobulin A (IgA) and immunoglobulin M (IgM)] were compared between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the total effective rate was 95.24% in the observation group and 80.49% in the control group, the difference being significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of main symptoms and secondary symptoms as well as the total TCM scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of CRP, TNF- α, and IL-8 in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the levels of the three indicators in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of CD4+ , CD4+/CD8+ , IgA, and IgM in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the levels of CD4+ , CD4+/CD8+ , IgA, and IgM in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05); the levels of CD8+ in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the level of CD8+ in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Huangqi Shengmai Decoction combined with conventional western medicine has significant effects on senile pneumonia of qi-yin deficiency type, which can relieve their TCM syndromes and inflammatory reactions and improve body immune function.
