Abstract: This study explores the progress of Chinese medicinals in improving myopia based on the transforming growth factor-β/bone morphogenetic protein (TGF-β/BMP) signaling pathway by analyzing the action mechanism of Chinese medicinals in scleral remodeling. Literature data supporting the effect of Chinese medicinals on sclera remodeling to delay myopia and its intervention in TGF- β/BMP signaling pathway are collected and collated. The epidemiology of myopia, the role of sclera remodeling in myopia development, and the relationship between TGF- β/BMP signaling pathway and myopia are summarized. The action mechanism of Chinese medicinals in treating myopia and the effects of Chinese medicine intervention in the TGF- β/BMP signaling pathway in experimental and clinical studies were elucidated. It was found that some Chinese medicinals have regulatory effects on TGF- β/BMP signaling pathway, slowing down the development of myopia by affecting the process of scleral remodeling. The intervention of Chinese medicinals in the TGF- β/BMP signaling pathway has significant prospects for the improvement of myopia. Through further optimization of treatment plans,it is expected to provide more effective and safer treatment options for patients with myopia.
