Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of the combination use of Chaichen Zexie Decoction and wrist-ankle acupuncture on persistent-postural perceptual dizziness (PPPD) with phlegm-damp obstructing middle energizer syndrome and its effect on serum homocysteine (Hcy) and uric acid (UA). Methods:A total of 60 cases of PPPD patients with phlegm-damp obstructing middle energizer syndrome were selected and divided into the control group and the trial group according to the random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. The control group was treated with wrist-ankle acupuncture, and the trial group was additionally treated with Chaichen Zexie Decoction. Both groups were treated for four weeks. The clinical effects, scores of Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), Hamilton Anxiety Scale-14 (HAMA-14) and Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), levels of serum Hcy and UA, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results:After four weeks of treatment, the total effective rate in the trial group was 96.67%, higher than that of 80.00% in the control group, the difference being significant (P<0.05). After two and four weeks of treatment, the DHI scores in the two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the DHI score in the trial group was lower than that in the control group at the same time point, differences being significant (P<0.05). After two and four weeks of treatment, the scores of HAMA-14 and HAMD in the two groups were reduced when compared with those before treatment, and above two scores in the trial group were lower than those in the control group at the same time point, differences being significant (P<0.05). After four weeks of treatment, the levels of serum Hcy and UA in the two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the above two levels in the trial group were lower than those in the control group, differences being significant (P<0.05). During the treatment, the incidence of adverse reactions was 23.33% in the trial group and 20.00% in the control group, there being no significance in the difference (P>0.05). Conclusion: The combination use of Chaichen Zexie Decoction and wrist-ankle acupuncture can mitigate the dizziness, anxiety and depression of PPPD patients with phlegm-damp obstructing middle energizer syndrome, and down-regulate the levels of serum Hcy and UA,with great safety.
