Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of self-made Buqi Huoxue Decoction combined with quadruple chemotherapy on helicobacter pylori (Hp) positive chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and its effect on gastrointestinal function and gastroscopic mucosa. Methods： A total of 100 patients with CAG caused by Hp infection were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group ， with 50 cases in each group， using a random number table method. The control group was treated with quadruple therapy， and the observation group was treated with Buqi Huoxue Decoction based on the control group. The clinical effects， traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores， gastrointestinal hormones[serum gastrin (GAS) and motilin (MOT)]， gastroscopic mucosal sign scores， incidence of adverse reactions，Hp eradication rate，and recurrence rate were analyzed in the two groups. Results：The total effective rate was 96.00% in the observation group，and 80.00% in the control group，the difference being significant (P＜0.05). After treatment， the scores of epigastric distension， stomach pain， belching and acid reflux，shortness of breath and lazy speech，reduced diet and difficult bowel movements，as well as the total scores in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)， and the above syndrome scores and total score in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment， the levels of GAS and MOT in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the two gastrointestinal function indicators in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment，the scores of mucosal granulation， mucosal vascular exposure， thickening of mucosal folds， and abnormal mucosal color in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the four gastroscopy signs in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 10.00% in the observation group， and 14.00% in the control group， there being no significant difference between the two groups (P＞0.05). After treatment，the Hp eradication rate was 98.00% in the observation group， which was higher than that of 84.00% in the control group， there being no significant difference between the two groups (P＞0.05). After a three-month follow-up， the recurrence rate was 2.04% in the observation group， which was lower than that of 19.05% in the control group， the difference being significant (P＜0.05). Conclusion： The combination of Buqi Huoxue Decoction and quadruple therapy has a good therapeutic effect on patients with CAG caused by Hp infection. It can significantly improve the clinical symptoms of patients，enhance gastrointestinal function， repair gastric mucosa，prevent recurrence，and to some extent increase the Hp eradication rate.
