Abstract:The authors are to summarizes Professor LI Feize's clinical experience in treating palpitations based on "symptoms being the principle" by syndrome differentiation. Professor LI advocates that palpitations are embodied by three major symptoms, including excessive heartbeats, insufficient heartbeats, and average number of heartbeats. The pathogenesis of excessive heartbeats lies in water-fire imbalance, hyperactive heart yang, and insufficient heart yin; the treatment should pay attention to benefiting yin. The pathogenesis of insufficient heartbeats is mostly yin-yang imbalance, insufficient heart yang, and excessive heart yin;the treatment should pay attention to warming yang. The pathogenesis of normal number of heartbeats is usually that there is a basic harmony of yin and yang, and the heart beats are orderly, but the palpitations are caused by the abnormal movement of qi and blood and the disorder of heart qi,most of which are subjective symptoms;the treatment should focus on regulating qi. In addition, it is necessary to distinguish yin and yang in the process of syndrome differentiation and treatment of palpitations;for chronic diseases lasting for a long time,it is appropriate to treat deficiency, blood stasis and phlegm; worm medicinals can be used for unblocking collaterals, and flower medicinals for regulating qi.
