Abstract: Objective: To observe the curative effect of modified Guipi Decoction on children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with deficiency of both the heart and spleen syndrome. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 66 ASD children with deficiency of both the heart and spleen syndrome, who were divided into the control group of 35 cases and the treatment group of 31 cases according to different treatment methods. The control group received routine rehabilitation treatment,and the treatment group received modified Guipi Decoction in addition to the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for three months. Compared the clinical effects and adverse reactions of the two groups, and compared the changes in traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores, Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC) scores,Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) scores,Chinese Psychoeducational Profilethird edition (C-PEP-3) scores, and Autism Treatment Evaluation Scale (ATEC) scores before and after treatment. Results:The total effective rate was 93.55% in the treatment group,and 57.14% in the control group, the difference being significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of ABC, CARS, and ATEC in both groups were declined when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the scores of ABC, CARS, and ATEC in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05);both groups showed an increase in C-PEP-3 scores when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the treatment group had a higher C-PEP-3 score than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The modified Guipi Decoction has a good therapeutic effect on ASD with deficiency of both the heart and spleen syndrome, relieving clinical symptoms such as autism,improving limb function and intellectual development,and has high safety.
