Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of combination use of Bushen Qushi Decoction and Tiaoji Tongdu acupuncture method on lumbar disc herniation. Methods : A total of 78 patients with lumbar disc herniation were selected and divided into the control group and the study group according to different treatment plans, with 36 and 42 cases in each group. The control group was given routine treatment, and the study group was treated with Bushen Qushi Decoction combined with Tiaoji Tongdu acupuncture method. The clinical effects, and the changes in scores of Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA),and levels of serum inflammatory factors, including matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-9), tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α), interleukin-23 (IL-23), and of pain mediators, including 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT),cyclooxygenase (COX-2) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results: The total clinical effective rate was 92.86 % in the study group and 75.00 % in the control group, the difference being significant (P< 0.05). After treatment, the ODI scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the JOA scores were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05);the ODI score in the study group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05), and the JOA score was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of serum MMP-9,TNF-α and IL-23 in the two groups were reduced when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the above three levels in the study group were lower than those in the control group (P< 0.05). After treatment, the levels of serum 5-HT, COX-2 and PGE2 in the two groups were downregulated when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the above three levels in the study group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The combination use of Bushen Qushi Decoction and Tiaoji Tongdu acupuncture method has an inhibitory effect on the body's inflammatory responses of patients with lumbar disc herniation, which can reduce the degree of low back pain, and improve the lumbar function and clinical effect.
