Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of the acupuncture method of opening the orifices and resuscitating on sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE). Methods:A total of 80 cases of SAE patients were randomly divided into the control group and the treatment group, with 40 cases in each group. The control group received bundle therapy according to the international guidelines for the management of septic shock;based on the treatment of the control group, the treatment group was additionally treated with the acupuncture method of opening the orifices and resuscitating using a combination of main acupoints and auxiliary acupoints selection according to syndrome differentiation. The scores of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome, Glas-gow Coma Scale (GCS) score and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health EvaluationⅡ(APACHEⅡ) were observed and compared between the two groups before and after treatment. The hospitalization time at the ICU,the total hospitalization time, and mortality rates within 28 days were calculated. Clinical effects were evaluated. Results: The total effective rate was 90.00% in the treatment group and 75.00% in the control group, the difference being significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of TCM syndrome in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the scores in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05).After treatment, the scores of APACHEⅡin the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), the scores of GCS in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05);and the scores of APACHEⅡin the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05),the scores of GCS in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the hospitalization time at the ICU in the treatment group was significantly shortened when compared with that in the control group (P<0.05);there was no significant difference in the comparison of total hospitalization time and mortality rates within 28 days between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: The acupuncture method of opening the orifices and resuscitating can effectively improve clinical effects on SAE,improve patients' TCM syndrome, coma, and health status, and shorten ICU hospitalization time.
