Abstract: The Santai points, namely Taibai (SP3) point,Taichong (LR3) point, and Taixi (KI3) point, belong to the original acupoints of the spleen, liver, and kidney meridians. They are an empirical acupoints group summarized by Professor ZHANG Yongchen based on his clinical experience. Professor ZHANG Yongchen believes that the Santai points,as the original acupoints of the three meridians, are not only the acupoints for the passage and retention of primordial qi of viscera and bowels in the meridians but also the acupoints for stimulating the circulation of qi and blood. They have outstanding effects in regulating qi and containing blood, supplementing the liver and kidney, soothing the liver and nourishing the kidney, and warming and supplementing the spleen and kidney. Through the analysis of meridian circulation, root causes and symptoms, and qi pathway theory, it can be concluded that these three acupoints have a common therapeutic effect and have good curative effects on treating gastric diseases, tinnitus, and impotence. During the acupuncture process, different techniques of twisting, lifting, and thrusting can be applied to achieve different therapeutic effects. The Santai points are widely used in internal medicine, and when combined with other acupoint group, they often help to deal with complex situations and complement each other.
