Abstract: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a symptom that occurs in cancer patients due to both physical and psychological factors, either directly caused by cancer or occurring during cancer treatment. It is a common condition beyond the diagnosis and treatment of cancer itself. CRF belongs to the category of deficiency-consumption in Chinese medicine. Based on the theory of "reinforcing yang with sweet-warm medicinals" in the Huang Di Nei Jing (The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic), the core position of "yang deficiency" in the process of CRF is explained. The treatment method with sweet-warm medicinals is not only the basic therapy of "reinforcing yang", but also the general method of Chinese medicine for treating deficiency-impairment diseases. Taking the deficiency of yang qi in the spleen and kidney, which are the foundation of acquired constitution and the root of innate endowment respectively, prescriptions of reinforcing yang with sweet-warm medicinals should be used to build center qi,supplement kidney yang, and nourish both spirit and body, thus achieving the goal of "only when yang is compacted can essencespirit be normal" from the root, providing a differentiation and treatment approach for CRF in Chinese medicine.
