Abstract:Based on the theory of "deficiency consumption and blood dryness" from "Essentials from the Golden Cabinet: Chapter Six on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Blood Deficiency and Deficiency Consumption Diseases and Syndromes", this paper explores the etiology and pathogenesis of interstitial cystitis or bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) in elderly women. It is believed that the cause of IC/BPS is due to consumptive disease caused by deficiency; the pathogenesis is due to stasis caused by deficiency, a mixture of deficiency and excess, simmering stasis blood, and dry blood forming internally. Following the principle of treating the branch in urgent conditions and the root in moderate conditions, the treatment can use pills to dispel stasis to promote regeneration, enrich yin and clear heat, revive the center and supplement deficiency, and treat diseases with both attack and supplementation; or use decoctions to invigorate blood and dissolve stasis, and clear up dry blood. The clinical application of Dahuang Zhechong Pills in treating IC/BPS from the perspective of "deficiency consumption and blood dryness" has a definite clinical effect, which can broaden the thinking for the diagnosis and treatment of this disease in traditional Chinese medicine.
