Abstract: Objective: To observe the effects of Wuling Capsules combined with Gastrodin Injection on liver function and cognitive function in epilepsy patients. Methods: A total of 80 epilepsy patients admitted to the Department of Neurology in Deqing County People's Hospital for treatment from August 2020 to April 2024 were randomly divided into the control group and the trial group, with 40 patients in each group. The control group was given gastrodin injection intravenously;the trial group received the oral administration of Wuling Capsules in addition to the control group. The clinical effects and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. The changes in EEG power, liver function [alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and γ -glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT)],and cognitive function [scores of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA)] were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results: The total clinical effective rate in the trial group was 97.50% (39/40),and that in the control group was 80.00% (32/ 40),with the difference being significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the α values of EEG power in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the θ and δ values were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05);the α value of EEG power in the trial group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05),and the θ and δ values in the trial group were higher than those in the control group (P< 0.05). After treatment, the levels of ALT,AST,and GGT in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05); there was no significant difference in the comparison of the levels of ALT, AST, and GGT between the two groups( P>0.05). After treatment, the MMSE and MoCA scores in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the MMSE and MoCA scores in the trial group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions in the control group was 15.00% (6/40), and the incidence of adverse reactions in the trial group was 17.50%(7/40),with no significance in the difference( P> 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of Wuling Capsules and Gastrodin Injection has a good therapeutic effect on epilepsy, which can improve EEG power and enhance cognitive function, with minimal impact on liver function and high safety.
