Abstract Objective： To observe the clinical effect of Yangxue Qufeng Prescription combined with Zhiyang Prescription for external washing in the treatment of skin itching of blood deficiency and wind-dryness type in hemodialysis patients. Methods： A total of 104 patients who had skin itching of blood deficiency and wind-dryness type， underwent hemodialysis， and were admitted to Wenling Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from March 2023 to December 2023 were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group，with 52 patients in each group. The control group was treated with Loratadine，while the treatment group was given a combination treatment of Yangxue Qufeng Prescription combined with Zhiyang Prescription for external washing on the basis of the control group. The two groups were treated continuously for four weeks. Traditional Chinese medicine（TCM） syndrome scores， modified Duo's itch scores， Dermatology Life Quality Index （DLQI） scores， and levels of inflammatory factors were compared between two groups before and after treatment； the clinical effects， incidence of adverse reactions， and disease recurrence rates were compared between the two groups. Results：The total effective rate in the treatment group was 94.23% （49/52），which was higher than that of 80.77% （42/52） in the control group （P＜0.05）. After treatment， the modified Duo's itch scores，TCM syndrome scores，DLQI scores，the levels of serum C-reactive protein （CRP）， tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α），and interleukin-6 （IL-6） in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment （P＜0.05），and the modified Duo's itch scores，TCM syndrome scores，DLQI scores，and the levels of serum inflammatory factors in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group （P＜0.05）. The incidence of adverse reactions in the treatment group was 5.77% （3/52），while that in the control group was 9.62% （5/ 52）， with no significance in the difference between the two groups （P＞0.05）. The recurrence rate in the treatment group was 16.33%（ 8/49），which was lower than that of 40.48%（ 17/42） in the control group（ P＜0.05）. Conclusion： The combination of Yangxue Qufeng Prescription combined with Zhiyang Prescription for external washing is effective in treating skin itching of blood deficiency and wind-dryness type in hemodialysis patients. It can reduce inflammation responses，improve quality of life，reduce disease recurrence rate，and has higher safety.
