Abstract:Objective:To retrospectively analyze the clinical effect of Jingui Shenqi Pill on osteoporosis following spinal cord injury and its impact on bone metabolism indicators. Methods:Retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 90 patients with spinal cord injury treated in Wenzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine from January 2021 to September 2023,and divided them into the control group and observation group based on different treatment methods, with 45 cases in each group. The control group received routine postoperative rehabilitation treatment, and the observation group received Jingui Shenqi Pill in addition to routine postoperative rehabilitation treatment. Both groups maintained treatment for six months. Recorded the incidence of new fractures below the spinal cord injury segment within six months after operation, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, bone mineral density, bone metabolism indicators on the third day after operation and in six-month postoperative follow-up, and severe complications during the treatment process. Results: At the six-month postoperative follow-up, there were significant differences between the two groups in traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores for secondary symptoms such as insomnia, forgetfulness, mental fatigue, lack of strength and hair and tooth loss (P<0.05), with the observation group showing lower scores than the control group. At the six-month postoperative follow-up,bone mineral density at the distal femur and proximal tibia increased in the two groups compared to those on the third day after operation,and the observation group showed higher values than the control group,the difference being significant( P< 0.05) . The levels of bone alkaline phosphatase, calcitonin, and 25-hydroxyvitamin D were elevated in both groups compared to those on the third day after operation, and the observation group showed higher levels of calcitonin and 25-hydroxyvitamin D and lower level of bone alkaline phosphatase than the control group (P<0.05) . Within six months after operation, there was no significant difference in comparison of the incidence of new fractures below the spinal cord injury segment between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: Jingui Shenqi Pill for patients after operation for spinal cord injury can effectively alleviate their postoperative osteoporosis changes,with certain safety.
