Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effects of Ba Duan Jin combined with suspension exercise training in the treatment of chronic non-specific low back pain (NSLBP). Methods:A total of 90 patients with chronic NSLBP treated at Wenzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University from May 2023 to October 2023 were selected. The patients were divided into the suspension group, the Ba Duan Jin group, and the combination group according to the random number table method,with 30 cases in each group. The suspension group received suspension exercise training, the Ba Duan Jin group practiced Ba Duan Jin, and the combination group underwent both treatments. All three groups were treated for four weeks. Clinical effects, scores of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Japanese Orthopaedic Association-Low Back Pain Assessment (JOA), and Oswestry Disability Index( ODI),as well as levels of interleukin-6( IL-6),matrix metalloproteinase-3( MMP-3),interleukin-1β( IL-1β), and substance P(SP) were compared among the three groups. Results: After four weeks of treatment, the total effective rate in the combination group was 93.33%(28/30), which was higher than the 66.67%(20/30) in the suspension group and the 70.00%(21/30) in the Ba Duan Jin group (P<0.05). The VAS and ODI scores in the three groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the VAS and ODI scores in the combination group were lower than those in the suspension group and the Ba Duan Jin group (P<0.05). The JOA scores in all three groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the JOA scores in the combination group were higher than those of the suspension group and the Ba Duan Jin group (P<0.05). The levels of IL-6,MMP-3,IL-1β,and SP in all three groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P< 0.05), and the levels of IL-6, MMP-3, IL-1β, and SP in the combination group were lower than those in the suspension group and the Ba Duan Jin group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the total effective rates, the scores of VAS,ODI,and JOA,as well as the levels of IL-6,MMP-3,IL-1β,and SP between the suspension group and the Ba Duan Jin group (P>0.05). Conclusion:The combination of Ba Duan Jin and suspension exercise training is more effective in treating chronic NSLBP than using Ba Duan Jin or with suspension exercise alone. It can effectively relieve pain and improve lumbar function, and the mechanism of action may be related to reducing inflammatory reactions.
